Kristin Korinko

Professional Biography

Dr. Kristin Korinko is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has worked in the field of Developmental Disabilities and Behavior Analysis for over 30 years. It began at a group home with deinstitutionalizing adults from South Florida State Hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Sciences from Florida State University, a Master of Sciences from Nova University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Walden University. At present, she serves as the Agency Senior Behavior Analyst with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. It is truly an honor to serve and continue to advocate and reinforce policy refinements at the local, state, and national level.

Recently, Dr. Korinko worked alongside many entities on a Mobile Response Team Dual Diagnosis Pilot Training Study for Adults with Developmental Disabilities and Mental Health needs. Thus, this study bridged the gap between the service of a Behavior Analyst and a Licensed Mental Health Professional for our citizens. She has also been in private practice for over 30 years. She holds Instructor Certifications in several crisis intervention protocols. Dr. Korinko has taught at Tallahassee State College as an Adjunct Professor in the History and Social Sciences for over 25 years and at St. Leo University for over 5 years. Currently, she is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Walden University in the graduate program in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Dr. Korinko has been a member of FABA since 1989 and served on the Capital Area chapter of FABA as the Secretary (2002) and President (2003). She has served as a member of several task forces and as a member of the Human Rights Advocacy Committee (HRAC/LAC) at Florida State Hospital to promote advocacy and awareness. She has given numerous professional presentations and poster sessions at both state and national conferences.

Dr. Korinko has had the pleasure of serving as Secretary (2002) and then President (2003) of the Capital Area chapter of FABA. Professional Committees have included the APD MRT/DD Pilot Training Project, the APBA Public Policy Task Force, the NADD/FDDC Task Forces on Dual Diagnosis, the FDDC Task Forces on Criminal Justice Prevention, Abuse & Neglect Prevention, and Understanding the Behavior Therapist Shortage in Florida. Currently, Dr. Korinko volunteers with both the Kiwanis club and the Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta Foundation (benefitting the American Cancer Society) as Foundation President.

As a Behavior Analyst, I have witnessed many examples of both true successes and unfortunate blunders. I have been watching very carefully both the state and national trends within our field. Data has been compiled, and the results of my professional needs assessment are completed. I am seeking the role of FABA Member-at-Large because I am ready to offer my insight and experience to make a difference in the lives of all persons served.

One strength that I bring to the table is the ability to see clients of all ages (children, young adults, and adults who are young at heart) building better lives over the years. Also, I am disheartened by the countless examples of misinformation “out there” about the history and current applicability of Behavior Analysis. I believe that we can do a better job instilling historical perspectives and educational dissemination of these triumphs to the more novice Behavior Analysts and shape their onboarding into how to serve adults. Kids grow up, folks!

In turn, by replacing misinformation with accurate data, I hope to support the fraud reduction prevalence in our state. This is a skill that I have refined over the years in my current capacity with APD. I believe that this is truly one objective that is on the FABA agenda as an initiative.
