Deidra Shubert

Professional Biography

I have more than 10 years of professional experience in behavior analysis across clinical, educational, and geriatric settings. I earned my master's degree in ABA and OBM from the Florida Institute of Technology and am a BCBA. My career has included providing direct services, caregiver training, staff supervision, program development, and interdisciplinary collaboration for individuals across the lifespan. I have worked with children with autism and developmental disabilities in school, and clinic settings, as well as older adults living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. My work has focused on improving quality of life through evidence-based behavioral interventions, caregiver education, and person-centered approaches. In addition to clinical practice, I have extensive experience in professional education and community outreach. I have developed and presented trainings for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and community organizations on topics including dementia care, behavior management, and brain health. Currently, I work in clinical research focused on Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, where I support study operations, participant engagement, and community education. This role allows me to integrate principles of behavior analysis with research, public health, and advocacy to improve outcomes for individuals affected by cognitive disorders.

I have been actively involved in several professional and community organizations throughout my career. I've served as Secretary for the ABA of Brevard since 2017, where I help coordinate continuing education events and support local behavior analysts. I also serve as Co-Chair of the Dementia Care and Cure Initiative for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and as Vice Chair of the Brevard Parkinson's Alliance. In addition, I am a volunteer Alzheimer's Advocate for the Alzheimer's Association and have attended sessions in Tallahassee and Washington DC. Over the past four years, I've met with both local and federal legislators on crucial Alzheimer's researching and care funding as well as professional education standards. These leadership roles have strengthened my skills in collaboration, event planning, advocacy, and professional education while allowing me to promote evidence-based practices.

I am seeking the Member-at-Large position because I want to help strengthen FABA's voice across Florida by advancing policies, partnerships, and public awareness that support behavior analysts and the communities we impact. Throughout my career, I have combined behavior analysis with community leadership, legislative advocacy, and public education. Whether meeting with elected officials, organizing educational events, or collaborating with healthcare and community organizations, I have seen firsthand how effective advocacy can increase awareness, influence policy, and expand access to evidence-based services. I would bring strong communication, relationship building, and leadership skills to the Board, along with experience engaging diverse stakeholders around a shared mission. I am passionate about helping behavior analysts become stronger advocates; not only for our profession but also for the individuals and families we serve. If elected, I would support initiatives that strengthen FABA's advocacy efforts, increase member engagement in legislative activities, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and highlight the expanding role of behavior analysis in healthcare, aging, education, and community settings. I also hope to encourage more members to share their expertise with policymakers and the public so that behavior analysis continues to be recognized as an essential, evidence-based profession.
