FABA Public Policy Director Position Open

About the Position:

The Florida Association for Behavior Analysis is currently accepting applications for a Public Policy Director (PPD) position. This position will report to the FABA Board of Directors and serve as a leader for policy-related matters for the association and assists the association with related matters including, but not limited to the following:

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director and Board of Directors, assist the organization with public policy and state legislative affairs and advise the Board of Directors of the Public Policy Committee to advance the mission of FABA. This includes but is not limited to in-person meetings with the public policy/legislative team, reporting to the Board during monthly meetings, reporting to the membership on a monthly (or more frequently as needed) basis, reporting and contributing to the legislative updates at the annual conference, reviewing and submission of language associated with draft policies, rules, and rule changes, as well as public representation of the FABA membership and Board of Directors with stakeholders at the state and local level.
  • Arrange and attend policy meetings, provide expert testimony, and represent FABA as needed at the direction of the FABA Board or FABA lobbyist.
  • Provide consistent and effective communication with FABA membership regarding Public Policy and state legislative issues. Including timely updates to the FABA membership, providing education and advocacy relevant to the FABA members and aligned to the organization’s priorities and goals
  • Ensure all actions and activities carried out by the Board of Directors are in accordance with the bylaws of the FABA Constitution.

Overall, this leadership role will be a proactive leader for FABA’s interests, and the interests related to behavior analysis in the State of Florida.

 

Status:

This is a part-time position. Initial responsibilities estimated at an average of 20 hours per week, this may vary depending on the time of year, legislative, and other activities related to the FABA Board and the Public Policy Committee. Additionally, since many of these duties and obligations require “on call” status, this position is paid a monthly salary, rather than hourly.


Location:

Although FABA’s office is in Tallahassee, Florida, relocation to Tallahassee is not required. However, residency in the state of Florida is required. The FABA Board will consider candidates who currently reside near or plan to relocate to Florida to fulfill responsibilities of the position.


Position Qualifications:

Must be or become a member of FABA and hold current certification as a BCBA-D or BCBA, or a credential with equivalent graduate level coursework and supervised experience, or can show extensive experience in Behavior Analysis through their professional experiences. The individual must have experience with legislative processes, funding approval for the advancement of behavior analysis as a service, leading teams and organizational management. Must be in good standing with the Behavior Analysis Certification Board. When lobbying is a required activity, the Director will obtain and maintain appropriate registration with the Florida Commission on Ethics and complete quarterly and annual reports.

Additionally, successful applications should have;

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with government agencies, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those with experience as a successful leader who can direct and manage multiple projects independently. Experience as a Public Policy Committee Chair, Workgroup Leader, Workgroup volunteer, active committee member, or similar experience in another state agency, advisory board or association is preferred.

 

Anticipated Salary Range:

Pay for this part-time position is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
